CRASH OF A VENTURA
3 MILES SOUTH EAST OF GUNDAROO, ACT
ON 7 DECEMBER 1943

On 7 December 1943, RAAF Ventura, A59-55, ex Bu. 34651, c/n 5641, crashed 3 miles south east of Gundaroo, at 1130 hours E.A.S.T. while on a training flight from Canberra. The aircraft was completely destroyed when it crashed at about 1130 hours. All of the crew were killed as follows:-

F/O R.A. Sinclair (pilot)
F/Sgt. W.H.K. Paterson (426487)
Sgt. J.A. Paul (429393)
F/Sgt. Allan Herbert Wright (411424)
F/Sgt. R.P. Tumilty (408429)

Refer RAAF Accident Report No. 512 of 1943/44.

This aircraft was originally received by the RAAF at 2AD on 25 August 1943. It was then received into 13 Squadron RAAF on 17 September 1943. Approval was given to convert the wreckage into components on 23 December 1943.
